The new generation in the telecommunication systems is the VoIP phone, all of which are powered from an IP technology for better quality and good connection of calls. The new phones are using an IP technology but other than that you may think it is a desktop phone. This new technology in the telecoms converts the analog human voice into digital packets and on the other way of the line it does it the opposite way.

The name VoIP which is voice over IP reveals that are used protocols and also voice codec. In the internet technology are used protocols, what the protocols do is they just load the digital packets of your voice and take it to the other end of a network. If the person at the other end can't hear you, that might be because something is wrong with the voice codec.

The person across the line is able to hear you because the voice codec is the one that helps your voice to be transferred to digital packets. Also the codec is helping for the conversation quality. The VoIP phones are supporting a variety of different codecs and some of them are G. 726 - 16/24/32/40 Kbps, G. 728 - 16 Kbps, G. 729 - 8 Kbps.

After you got some idea of the way that VoIP phones work, you probably want to learn more about the different types of phones. Most of the VoIP phones are equipped with display, keypad, handset, Ethernet ports, headset jack and some software. There is a variety of VoIP phones that are designed for different purposes.

One of the VoIP phones that are designed to connect to the system by Ethernet and it is equipped with all the basic stuff that a normal phone has. The other type is the one that is directly connected to your computer through one of the USB ports. The USB type comes with software you will need to install on your computer and it uses some sort of an application.

There is one among the phones from the new generation that are not connected through a cable or computer called wireless phones. They have built in Wi-Fi device, that way the telephone is able to hook to the modem. This feature is very helpful because that way you are capable of doing multiple thing while on the phone.

The other type offered on the market is the soft VoIP phone. For this you actually don't use a headset you will be using your computer or notebook to talk, all you need to do is install the application. This is very good application for call centers and it reduces the monthly bills.
