Telephone booths were the main means of public and private means of communication. This however has changed as the world continues to witness technology evolution. When Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) was introduced, communication took a different route. This route is full of efficiency, speed and reliability. Despite a lot of people using this new technology mode of communication, many do not have even a single ideal how it works.

This technology uses broadband which are internet connected unlike the olden methods which used fiber optic methods. They provide cheap and reliable means of communication. The hardware setup can be done in the house of the customer. This enables a person to make a call any time without having to travel.

This on the other hand provides immediate advantage in cutting cost. Any interested person will be required to purchase a few equipments and once they are assembled, a person can enjoy conversations over a long distance in a speedy manner.

The equipment needed to set up this communication mode includes a Voice over Internet Protocol gateway, a high speed broadband and a router. Once they are set up they are then interconnected with a phone and supported by software to provide service in one line. This mode of communication is cheap and affordable. The router operates like a telephone by sending signals.

With this kind of technology phones calls can also be made between two computers using the IP phones. IP phones are like normal phones but have a connector known as RJ-45 Ethernet instead of the usual RJ-11 connectors. These devices have all the needed software and hardware. This makes it easier for the user to connect to the router directly hence making the process cost effective.

It is very advantageous using this kind of technology because a person can make calls around the world provided there is a reliable broadband internet connection. Clients can also take with them their IP phones or the ATA in order to make those important calls when need there is the need to do so. Also available are the soft phones that are used to install VoIP services into the laptop or desktop.

Voice over Internet Protocol uses the same mode in all connection types. The analog signal is converted to a digital mode by the router. The digital signal is subdivided and packed into packets. These packets are then sent over the internet to the other end. One they reach they are the converted to their original state. This enables the other person receive the analog mode which is a voice. This technology is cheap, convenient and fast.
