The Pros And Cons Of VoIP

One of most exciting phone technologies to emerge since the internet is VoIP, or voice over IP. This allows people to make phone calls directly from their computer, which has many benefits over using a traditional phone service. There are also a few disadvantages as well, but for the most part the good far outweighs the bad.

People who make a lot of long distance calls know that it can be very expensive. This is the biggest benefit of this technology as it allows people to make free long distance calls to any other person who has a computer. For people who travel a lot or make large amounts of long distance calls this is a great way to save money.

Another advantage is that Voice over IP is that it can be taken anywhere. People can make calls from anyplace where they can plug in their computer and that has a good internet connection. This is great for people who travel and do not want to set up an entirely new phone line in each new place.

Traditional phones are also limited in some of the things they can do. Voice over IP has all of the same features, usually for free, but can also do some things like send photos or documents that people cannot do on a traditional phone. This is a big benefit for people who do a lot of work while they travel or who enjoy sending pictures.

However, not everything about this technology is great, it also has some disadvantages that people should be aware of. Since it requires electricity and internet to work it can be inconvenient if there is a power outage or the person is in a place that does not have high speed internet. This is something to consider before making the switch, especially for those who will be traveling a lot or will be in a place with sketchy electricity.

It is also not a good option for emergency calls. Since an emergency operator can trace a person on a normal phone it makes it easy for them to direct services to the right place. This is currently not available on VoIP, which means people cannot rely on it for emergency calls.

VoIP has a lot of benefits and only a few negatives so people should definitely consider making it part of their phone services. They can save money and have a lot more flexibility than using a normal phone service. With so many advantages people should start using it as soon as possible.
