How Old Small Business Phones Systems Can Bring Offices Down

People don't always know the entire truth behind small business telephone systems. The phones tend to get left at the bottom of the list of equipment requiring an overhaul, especially as there was nothing else to use instead in its place until very recently. In fact, there is plenty of scope for this, especially with a whole new range of Internet phones that has recently hit the market. Not only are these new options useful, they are also much cheaper.

A little-known fact about small business telephone services is that not all of them use a hardwired and dedicated line. VoIP phones (short for Voice over IP) run over the web, with the whole internal process being dissimilar despite no difference in call quality. These are moved along the broadband connection to the central exchange where they are converted back to regular phone signals that can be forwarded on. This doesn't affect anything externally, making it work just as a standard phone would for all callers.

It can also be surprising to find out how much a company is actually paying for their phone service, especially if they have a busy call center or sales team. It costs a huge amount to simply have a landline open, not including the additional costs for each call. It may not appear this way because these phones often have very few features and seem so simple. The position of these small business phones systems is that they offer very little in the way of flexibility, but still cost a premium rate for the service.

Companies with basic small business telephone services have probably noticed just how inflexible landlines can be. This may be more noticeable today because of the cellular phone. When customers are only ringing in on the office hours number, this can leave staff held at their desks all day to handle these calls. It might be long-awaited news to know that there are systems that are more flexible than this. Digital numbers call through to the system instead of the physical phone's line, so it can ring wherever a user is logged in and has that number active. For this a person only needs to be able to get on the Internet and have the correct privileges.

It is understandable that this might all be new to some people as it is still a very young technology. Despite its rapid growth in the last 2 years, people are still learning what the technology can do for them. Those left wondering what it's all about should start paying attention now, as it is plausible that their workplace will soon be adopting the system.
