IP Telephony: Cheaper, High Quality Calls

Today, there are many individuals who make local calls and international calls through the internet. This is made possible by various categories of software plus hardware that enable individuals to use the internet as the medium for transmitting telephone calls. For many users with fixed-price or free internet access, IP Telephony software basically offers free phone calls to all parts of the world.

IPT, means internet protocol telephony and is generally a term that describes the technology which uses packet-switched internet protocol connection for purposes of exchanging different forms of information including voice and fax. Through the years these have been carried via circuit-switched connectivity of public switched phone network.

The IPT service providers may include internet service providers and local telephone companies. Others are cable TV companies and fixed service wireless operators. This technology could also affect the retailers of the traditional handheld devices in some ways.

One of the greatest advantages of IPT is that it is a money-saving and easy to implement technology. IPT Service Providers use a single infrastructure to provide both Internet telephony and Internet access. This results to better bandwidth utilization due to multiplexing data and voice compared to today's over-engineered voice-or-nothing links. Both the providers and their clients benefit from these lower costs.

As a customer, you could take advantage of these flat internet rates rather than using PSTN rates. The cost of making long distance calls can be rather high in most countries. You could therefore save lots of cash if you route your long distance calls over the internet.

As an IP Telephony user, you could benefit also from the software-oriented nature of this technology. Software solutions could be extended or integrated easily with the other applications or services including electronic calendar, world wide web and white boarding. Unlike traditional PSTN protocol, to deploy new IPT services does not require high investments such as time or money. The service offers an easy and fast way of making calls internationally.
